During an official state visit to Niamey on June 2, 2026, Beninese President Romuald Wadagni and his Nigerien counterpart Abdourahamane Tiani formalized the creation of a specialized expert committee tasked with finalizing the conditions for reopening their shared border.

The announcement follows high-level discussions that underscored mutual commitments to strengthening bilateral relations across security, economic integration, and regional stability. Both leaders emphasized the historical bonds uniting their nations and reiterated their dedication to addressing shared challenges through enhanced cooperation frameworks.
