Benin’s delegate takes the floor at UCESIF Bucharest general assembly
Benin’s institutional diplomacy is once again front and centre on the francophone stage. From 28 to 30 September 2026, Abdoulaye Bio Tchané, president of Benin’s Economic and Social Council (CES), is leading an official delegation to Bucharest, Romania, to take part in the Bureau meeting and the General Assembly of the Union of Economic and Social Councils and Similar Francophone Institutions (UCESIF).
Bucharest hosts the francophone consultation
Meeting at the Palace of the Romanian Parliament, the member delegations are examining today’s challenges in social dialogue, participatory governance and economic resilience across the francophone world.
Benin’s CES inside the strategic decisions
The mission to the Romanian capital fits squarely within the vision of the 8th term of Benin’s CES, which prioritises international outreach and openness to the best consultative governance practices.
Across the three days of exchanges, the Benin delegation’s work is built around three main axes:
- Sign-off on budget and administrative orientations: review of activity reports, assessment of financial management and setting of UCESIF’s operational roadmap for the coming cycles.
- Strengthening francophone partnership: consolidating synergies between member institutions so that citizen consultations become levers for national public policies.
- Bilateral cooperation: working meetings on the sidelines of the plenary sessions with the presidents of African and European ESCs to share experience on economic inclusion and social dialogue.
A lever for the reach of consultative democracy
By actively carrying Benin’s proposals within UCESIF, Abdoulaye Bio Tchané reaffirms the strategic role that consultative assemblies play in the stability and sustainable development of nations.
Faced with global economic shifts and the challenge of youth employment, the Bucharest General Assembly gives Benin a privileged platform to advance its national initiatives while drawing on successful models from across the francophone network. The conclusions and resolutions adopted at the end of the proceedings will serve as the foundation for the Union’s future joint actions.
