The Spanish football league has officially announced the postponement of the highly anticipated clash between Celta Vigo and Osasuna, originally scheduled for this Sunday at 9:30 PM, kicking off the new Liga season.

This decision comes after an inspection of the playing surface at Balaídos Stadium, home of Celta Vigo, revealed severe fungal damage rendering the pitch unfit for competitive play. League officials conducted a thorough assessment throughout Wednesday, confirming the urgency of the situation.

The rescheduled fixture is set for Thursday, August 27th, at 8:30 PM. This adjustment aligns with the league’s autonomous decision-making power, which has been in effect since midway through last season. While the Spanish Football Federation was consulted, the final call rested with the league itself.

The official statement emphasized seamless coordination between the league, federation, and both participating clubs to ensure minimal disruption to the broader schedule.

This isn’t the first hiccup for the season opener. Earlier, three other matches had already been postponed: Valencia versus Real Betis, Real Madrid against Real Sociedad, and Barcelona facing Athletic Bilbao, all now awaiting their new dates.
