For over a week, online reports have circulated, suggesting the Ceuta crossing point between Morocco and Spain was set to reopen this Saturday, August 15. However, officials from both nations have clarified that new protocols are now in place, specifically designed to prevent a recurrence of the significant migrant influx witnessed previously.
The situation remains delicate following a major event in late July, when approximately 72,000 individuals crossed into Spain via Ceuta. The vast majority of these individuals were subsequently returned to Morocco, highlighting the complex dynamics at play.
Analyzing the current climate, Patrick Martin-Genier, a lecturer at Sciences Po, observed that significant difficulties currently exist between Morocco and Spain. He emphasized the necessity for both sides to de-escalate the situation and seek common ground to address these challenges effectively.
