Chad steps up fight against human trafficking

The Chadian government is ramping up its efforts to combat human trafficking, particularly affecting women and children, by enforcing existing laws with greater rigor. A circular note has been dispatched to security and judicial officials, underscoring the urgency of this crackdown and outlining precise enforcement actions.

Human trafficking represents a severe breach of human rights, frequently involving sexual exploitation and forced labor. As a signatory to the United Nations Convention against Transnational Organized Crime since 2009, Chad has enacted multiple legislative measures to address this scourge, including Ordinance No. 006/PR/2018 and Law No. 12/PR/2018.

Enforcement authorities are now required to conduct swift investigations, compile detailed reports, and ensure all cases are promptly transferred to competent courts. Additionally, all cases must be reported to the General Secretariat of the Ministry of Justice and the National Anti-Trafficking Commission for rigorous monitoring and follow-up.

Provincial delegates have been tasked with ensuring strict compliance with these directives. This coordinated push aims to establish a national database to inform a more effective anti-trafficking strategy across Chad.
