The legal action initiated against Ousmane Sonko following his controversial remarks about the holy city of Touba remains firmly on track. Serigne Makhtar Bousso, representing the complainants, formally validated the petition during his hearing with investigators on Tuesday.

This judicial process stems from a formal request delivered to the public prosecutor on July 14, 2026, by Serigne Modou Maroun Niang and Serigne Mourtalla Bousso. Both individuals, who are grandsons of the revered Cheikh Ahmadou Bamba, are challenging the leader of the National Assembly over public statements he made during the opening of the Pastef party headquarters in Mbacké. During that event, Ousmane Sonko reportedly asserted that illicit funds had made their way into the sacred city of Touba.
