The making of the RHDP

Envisioned as the grand assembly for the heirs of Félix Houphouët-Boigny, a political lineage often fractured by disputes over his legacy, the Rally of Houphouëtists for Democracy and Peace (RHDP) has undergone a remarkable transformation. Originating as a coalition born from the strategic alliance between Alassane Ouattara and Henri Konan Bédié – two former adversaries united against a common opponent, Laurent Gbagbo – the RHDP has, over approximately two decades, ascended from the ranks of the opposition to the pinnacles of power. Today, it stands as the undeniable hegemonic force shaping Ivorian political life, solidifying its dominant position.
