Abidjan – One hundred fifty soldiers, clad in camouflage fatigues, rifles in hand, their faces concealed by masks and balaclavas, marched with precision. At the front, a coordinator proudly hoisted the red-yellow-green flag, while snipers maintained a discreet but watchful presence. The rhythmic cadence of their signature drill, the “Pas de caméléon,” echoed through the streets as the Guinean special forces contingent passed by.

The Guinean Republic’s elite unit drew thunderous applause from the crowd, punctuated by standing ovations and salutes from the official grandstand as they concluded the foreign contingents’ parade marking Côte d’Ivoire’s 66th independence anniversary. Their performance, which wrapped up the ceremonial procession in Abidjan on Friday, August 7, was anything but ordinary.

Television broadcasts and social media erupted with praise for the Guinean detachment’s display of prowess. Journalists, influencers, and online commentators alike hailed the precision and power of the Guinean special forces.

Social media buzzed with reactions. Deloy Dadié, an Ivorian observer, shared his admiration: “Though Ivorian myself, this was the best parade I’ve seen. I watched it repeatedly in awe and even saved the footage. Thank you, Guinea.”

Brice Kouadio echoed similar sentiments: “This year’s standout performance: imposing, powerful, fierce, and elegant.”

Constant Silué went further, comparing the Guinean forces to Côte d’Ivoire’s own military: “I preferred the Guinean army’s parade over our own. It’s the first time I’ve seen their special forces in action—truly magnificent. Thank you, Guinea. You are sincere and true neighbors.”

Back in Guinea, the footage sparked pride among citizens. Bory Diallo remarked, “The entire subregion is impressed by Guinea’s military.”

Ibrahima Bah highlighted the symbolic significance of the participation: “Strong neighborly relations are invaluable. With a large Guinean community in Côte d’Ivoire, seeing our army march in their independence celebrations fills us with pride—especially for those of us living in this great nation.”

Sekou Moriba added, “Despite everything, seeing them march fills me with a deep sense of pride.”

This wasn’t the first time the Guinean special forces captured global attention. Since their first notable appearance during Guinea’s independence day celebrations on October 2, 2018, the unit has steadily gained recognition as one of the country’s most spectacular military formations.
