Human Rights Watch has conducted an investigation into airstrikes conducted by Africa Corps in Kyrnia, located in Mali’s Mopti region. The strikes, which took place on June 15, resulted in the deaths of eight civilians. According to the findings, none of the victims were affiliated with the Jama’at Nusrat al-Islam wal Muslimin (JNIM), a claim that directly contradicts statements made by Russian partners supporting Mali’s armed forces.

Ilaria Allegrozzi, a senior Sahel researcher for Human Rights Watch, presented these findings, emphasizing the discrepancy between the organization’s evidence and the narratives provided by allied military groups.

The incident has raised serious concerns about the accuracy of casualty reports in conflict zones and the protection of civilian lives during military operations.
