Kinshasa’s envoy delivers Tshisekedi’s letter to Faure Gnassingbé in Lomé
Togo’s head of state, Faure Gnassingbé, granted an audience in Lomé on Tuesday, 29 September 2026, to the Democratic Republic of Congo’s minister of regional integration, Floribert Anzuluni, who is on an official visit to the country.
Anzuluni travelled to the Togolese capital to hand over a written communication from Congolese president Félix-Antoine Tshisekedi Tshilombo. Speaking after the meeting, he said: “We were dispatched to the head of state to convey a particular message from President Félix-Antoine Tshisekedi. This letter concerns the pacification process in eastern DRC, in which His Excellency Faure Gnassingbé plays a central role as African Union mediator.”
During the talks, the Congolese minister presented a detailed update on recent progress in programmes to demobilise armed groups, a key initiative launched by Kinshasa to build lasting peace in the country’s eastern region.
The audience forms part of Togo’s diplomatic commitment to supporting pacification and the restoration of durable stability in the DRC and across the wider Great Lakes region.
Gnassingbé steps up African Union mediation efforts
Appointed African Union mediator in April 2025 to address the regional crisis, Faure Gnassingbé has since intensified diplomatic exchanges and consultations with the various stakeholders. Under his leadership, Lomé has hosted several summits and strategic meetings bringing together African facilitators. These combined efforts aim to advance political dialogue, consolidate ceasefire commitments and harmonise peace initiatives for a definitive resolution of the conflict.
Demobilisation progress at the heart of the talks
The update provided by Kinshasa’s envoy highlights the importance of disarmament, demobilisation and reintegration programmes in stabilising eastern DRC. The Congolese government views these efforts as essential to creating conditions for a lasting peace.
