Madagascar and Chad forge stronger economic and diplomatic partnerships

Economic collaboration takes center stage

The President of Madagascar’s Refoundation Movement, Colonel Michaël Randrianirina, attended the 66th anniversary of Chad’s Independence on August 11, 2026, in N’Djamena. The event, held at Place de la Nation, featured a grand military parade. Invited by Chadian President Marshal Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno, Randrianirina joined celebrations alongside Guinea-Bissau’s President General Horta N’Tam. All three leaders wore military uniforms during the ceremony.

The visit also fostered deeper bilateral exchanges. The day prior, Randrianirina and Déby held talks focusing on strengthening economic cooperation and infrastructure development. Randrianirina emphasized Africa’s potential when nations unite. “African progress hinges on solidarity and mutual support,” he stated.

Reigniting historical bonds

Randrianirina highlighted the long-standing diplomatic ties between Madagascar and Chad, noting a gradual decline in exchanges over recent years. Yet, multiple sectors present fresh opportunities for collaboration. In response, Chad’s President announced plans for an upcoming visit to Madagascar to solidify these ties.

Both nations share key historical milestones: French colonization, adoption of Republic status in 1958, and independence in 1960.
