Malian armed forces secure vital kayes-Bamako route for civilian convoys
The Malian Armed Forces (FAMa) successfully completed a crucial security operation, escorting 940 civilian trucks along the strategic Kayes – Bamako corridor from June 23 to June 29, 2026. This extensive mission ensured the safe passage of goods and people without any major incidents, reinforcing Mali truck convoy security.
The operation specifically focused on securing the vital road corridor connecting Kayes, Sandaré, Diéma, and ultimately the capital city, Bamako. This initiative underscores FAMa’s consistent efforts to enhance safety and stability along key national transport routes.
Initially, a specialized contingent of FAMa personnel commenced the escort of 540 civilian trucks, guiding them from Kayes towards Sandaré. Concurrently, on June 23, a second dedicated unit was strategically deployed from Diéma, moving to rendezvous with the convoy. Upon their successful link-up at Sandaré, this second unit assumed comprehensive command, overseeing the original 540 vehicles in addition to several other trucks that had been awaiting passage in the area.
Following the strategic consolidation of all vehicles at Diéma, the convoy swelled to an impressive total of 940 civilian trucks. Under the steadfast and professional protection of the Malian Armed Forces, this substantial procession navigated successfully through various key localities, including Sebabougou, Kwala, Diédiéni, Kolokani, and Kati. The entire journey culminated in their safe arrival in Bamako, without encountering any significant security breaches or operational delays.
This highly successful mission serves as a clear testament to FAMa’s enduring commitment to its fundamental responsibilities: diligently safeguarding strategic roadways, ensuring the robust protection of all civilian travelers and commercial transporters, and consistently upholding the principle of free and secure movement across the entire Malian territory.
