Morocco reaffirms its security vision for africa at marrakech platform

The Moroccan foreign minister outlined His Majesty King Mohammed VI’s strategic vision for addressing security threats across the continent during the Marrakech Platform event.

During the Marrakech Platform gathering, Moroccan Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita presented the strategic framework championed by King Mohammed VI to counter evolving security threats across Africa. The address came at the opening of the fifth high-level meeting of heads of African counter-terrorism and security agencies in El Jadida, co-chaired with the United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism.

The minister highlighted several pressing challenges currently facing the continent, including:

  • The spread and regionalization of terrorist activities
  • The escalation of armed conflicts
  • The deepening ties between terrorist groups, separatist movements, and transnational crime
  • Emerging threats from technological advancements and artificial intelligence

In response to these developments, Bourita emphasized that the Royal Vision provides a comprehensive framework for understanding Africa’s realities. He noted that Morocco views the continent not as a distant neighbor but as an integral part of its national identity, rooted in geography, history, politics, and shared institutions.

Bourita stressed that Morocco’s commitment to combating terrorism is not merely a diplomatic choice but a historical responsibility to safeguard its regional environment. He framed the country’s security as intrinsically linked to Africa’s stability and prosperity, reinforcing the principle of afro-optimism that underpins the kingdom’s engagement.

The minister underscored Morocco’s conviction that Africa, despite its security challenges, remains a continent of immense potential, rich in resources and ingenuity capable of overcoming its obstacles.
