Photographer Tiécoura N’Daou captures Mali’s humanitarian crisis through lens
In Mali, over 6.4 million people currently rely on humanitarian aid and protection. More than 400,000 individuals have been internally displaced, predominantly women and children. An estimated 1.5 million people are grappling with an acute food crisis, while 1.5 million children under five face severe malnutrition. Behind these stark figures lie real lives—men, women, children, displaced families, and aid workers—each with their own stories.
To shine a light on this often-overlooked crisis, seven humanitarian organizations, including Action Against Hunger, collaborated to organize an exhibition featuring the work of Malian photographer Tiécoura N’Daou. Titled “Mali: Personal Glimpses of Humanitarian Crisis,” the exhibition recently concluded in Berlin. In this piece, we sit down with the artist, who is also an educator and researcher based in Mali.
Innovative baking trends in Yaoundé
In Yaoundé, the scent of freshly baked bread fills the air—but today, it carries a unique twist. The Cameroonian capital recently hosted a competition for the best artisanal baker, organized by the Service d’Appui aux Initiatives Locales de Développement (SAILD) in partnership with the Citizen Association for the Defense of Collective Interests (ACDIC). The event aimed to highlight a key goal: promoting the use of local flours in baking.
