Religious leader serigne habib sy announces pastef adherence in tivaouane

Prominent religious figure Serigne Habib Sy has formally declared his allegiance to Pastef, the ruling political party, during a significant meeting with Ousmane Sonko in Diaksao. Sy explicitly stated his intention to acquire a party membership card, signaling a clear public endorsement for the movement led by Sonko.
Ahead of the esteemed Mawlid celebration in Tivaouane, Ousmane Sonko, who serves as both the President of the National Assembly and the influential leader of Pastef, made a visit to Diaksao. This visit was part of his customary engagements with various religious leaders. During this particular encounter, Serigne Habib Sy hosted Sonko and seized the moment to openly affirm his affiliation with the governing party.
Addressing his distinguished guest, the spiritual leader unequivocally conveyed his desire to formalize his membership with Pastef. “I am indeed a member of Pastef,” Serigne Habib Sy articulated. “I plan to obtain a membership card very soon, although I am currently unfamiliar with the online registration process.” In response to this, Ousmane Sonko promptly pledged his assistance, assuring Sy, “I will personally deliver your membership card to you.”
Serigne Habib Sy’s recent announcement is consistent with his history of active civic involvement. The son of the revered late Mame Abdou Aziz Sy Dabakh, he famously joined the “Y en a marre” movement in February 2021. Now, several years on, he publicly declares his close association with Pastef and reiterates his clear intention to formally join the political party.
