The President of Senegal’s National Assembly, Ousmane Sonko, has acknowledged the Constitutional Council’s ruling declaring the constitutional reform law unconstitutional. The decision, handed down by the seven-member body known as the « Sept Sages », carries binding authority over all institutions and citizens.

« Beyond any analysis or dissenting opinions on the reasoning, one truth remains unshaken: this decision applies to everyone. Acknowledged, » Sonko stated in an official communication.

The leader of the Pastef movement emphasized that this episode underscores the importance of Senegal’s institutions operating within their defined roles. « When each institution fulfills its mandate with precision, crises simply cannot arise, » he noted.

Reaffirming the National Assembly’s commitment to its constitutional duties, Sonko declared, « Our institution will continue to exercise its full mandate. Laws will be debated, adopted, or rejected in service of the Senegalese people—our worthy and dignified citizens. »
