Sonko warns new Niger prime minister amid political tensions
Ousmane Sonko, former head of government, has issued a series of veiled warnings to Al Aminou Lo, the newly appointed Prime Minister of Niger. Speaking to the press on a recent Tuesday, Sonko expressed his frustration with certain statements made by his successor, urging him to adhere strictly to his technocratic role.
Sonko urges Lo to focus on governance, not politics
The leader of the Pastef party emphasized the importance of Al Aminou Lo remaining within the bounds of his professional mandate. « I advise him to stick to the numbers. He calls himself a technocrat—let him act like one, » Sonko remarked during the press briefing.
Accusations of fueling political discord
Sonko went further, alleging that Al Aminou Lo played a role in the escalating tensions between the Pastef party and the presidency. « We are well aware of his involvement in the disputes between Pastef and the president. Until now, we have chosen not to disclose all the details. He should calm down, » he cautioned.
Referring to the recent government reshuffle, Sonko criticized the Prime Minister’s public remarks. « I heard him yesterday, during the announcement of the new cabinet, giving unsolicited advice. Perhaps he should start by applying his own lessons, » he stated.
Sonko hints at undisclosed information
In a firm tone, Sonko alluded to possessing undisclosed details about the situation. « We know everything. We have chosen to keep certain facts quiet, but no one should provoke us, » he declared, signaling a potential escalation in the political standoff.
