Trump endorses Morocco’s sovereignty over western Sahara in historic statement

The United States has made its position crystal clear: Washington fully recognizes Morocco’s sovereignty over Western Sahara and stands firmly behind Rabat’s proposal for a serious, credible, and realistic autonomy plan as the sole foundation for a lasting resolution.

In a formal letter addressed to King Mohammed VI on the occasion of Morocco’s Throne Day, the U.S. President conveyed not only congratulations to the monarch and the Moroccan people but also highlighted the 250-year legacy of trust and mutual respect that binds the two nations together.

Addressing the Western Sahara dispute directly, the American leader underscored the urgency of ending the prolonged stalemate. “Any alternative route only perpetuates the status quo, which is unacceptable,” the message stated. “This disagreement must conclude now, and the United States will continue driving progress toward that end,” it added.

The U.S. President went on to commend the Moroccan monarch’s wise leadership as a cornerstone of regional stability. The message praised Morocco’s unwavering commitment to peace, its relentless fight against extremism, and its vital role in safeguarding both American and Moroccan security—particularly through the historic Abraham Accords. It also emphasized the Kingdom’s pivotal contributions to stability in the Sahel.

Turning to economic collaboration, the American leader praised Morocco’s Vision for Growth, calling it a catalyst for shared prosperity between the two nations and their economies. “My administration is committed to advancing economic and social development with Morocco, including within Western Sahara,” the President noted.

Looking ahead, the U.S. leader assured the King that reliable American technology and innovation would remain steadfast partners in Morocco’s progress over the next 250 years. Key sectors set to benefit include energy, artificial intelligence, critical minerals, and defense.

The statement concluded with a resounding call to action: “Together, we will forge a new era—one that prioritizes the interests of our peoples.”
