UNESCO Yaoundé hosts Chad delegation to boost digital education

In a landmark initiative to modernize education systems, a high-level delegation from Chad recently concluded a fact-finding mission in Yaoundé, Cameroon. The visit, held from April 20 to 24, 2026, focused on examining best practices for integrating Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) into education—a critical step for the Chadian government’s broader educational reform agenda.

The mission aligns with Chad’s national development priorities, including the 2022–2026 National Development Plan, the Chad Connexion 2030 initiative, and the National Teacher Policy (PNET). These strategic frameworks aim to enhance education quality, accessibility, and inclusivity across the country. The Chadian School Refoundation Program (PRET), supported by the Global Partnership for Education and implemented with UNESCO and UNICEF assistance, is central to these efforts.

ICT as a transformative tool for Chadian education

Despite structural challenges, ICT integration emerges as a vital lever to improve teaching quality, expand educational access, and strengthen governance in Chad’s education sector. The PRET initiative seeks to introduce gradual digital transformation through practical, low-tech solutions tailored to local realities.

The Chadian Ministry of National Education and Civic Promotion spearheaded this learning mission, drawing inspiration from Cameroon’s educational advancements. Cameroon has made significant strides in digital education across both formal and non-formal sectors, positioning itself as a regional model.

Lessons from Cameroon’s digital education model

The mission’s program included institutional meetings, technical visits, and collaborative workshops with key Cameroonian education stakeholders. At the Ministry of Basic Education (MINEDUB), discussions covered pedagogical, curricular, organizational, and infrastructural dimensions of Cameroon’s ICT integration model.

Key topics included teacher training programs, digital tools deployment, institutional coordination mechanisms, and partnerships supporting systemic digital transformation. The exchange of ideas provided actionable insights for Chad’s educational reform efforts.

Methodology and expected outcomes

The mission employed a rigorous methodology, combining document analysis, stakeholder interviews, field observations, and collaborative working sessions. This approach aims to identify critical success factors, document transferable practices, and adapt lessons to Chad’s context.

Outcomes will include a detailed mission report, operational recommendations, and a prioritized action plan to support ICT integration in Chad’s education system. The initiative underscores the UNESCO Central Africa Regional Bureau’s role as a catalyst for regional cooperation and innovation.

Strengthening regional cooperation for resilient education systems

This mission exemplifies UNESCO’s commitment to fostering sustainable knowledge-sharing mechanisms among Central African states. By promoting mutual learning and adaptation of proven solutions, the initiative enhances educational resilience and accelerates digital transformation across the region.

Through targeted capacity-building and partnership-driven approaches, Chad and Cameroon are paving the way for inclusive, high-quality education in Africa.
