The United States Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, extended warm congratulations to King Mohammed VI on July 30th, marking the 27th anniversary of his accession to the throne in Morocco. The message underscored the deep-rooted partnership between the two nations, tracing back nearly 250 years.

Marco Rubio emphasized the enduring friendship, stating, «For nearly 250 years, the United States and Morocco have maintained the longest-standing friendship in American history. This alliance is built on shared values and a mutual commitment to peace, security, and prosperity.»

In his official statement, he added, «On behalf of the United States, I extend my warmest greetings to His Majesty King Mohammed VI and the Moroccan people on the anniversary of His Majesty’s ascension to the throne.» The communication was officially released by the State Department.

Strengthening cooperation across key sectors

Looking ahead, Marco Rubio highlighted that collaboration between Morocco and the United States will deepen across multiple fields. «In the coming months and years, our cooperation will grow even stronger,» he noted. «Together, we will continue to advance regional stability, economic growth, and shared prosperity for both our nations.»

Reiterating Washington’s position, Marco Rubio stressed, «Under President Trump’s leadership, the United States unequivocally recognizes Morocco’s sovereignty over Western Sahara and supports its autonomy proposal as the only viable foundation for a just, lasting, and mutually acceptable solution.»

He warned, «Any alternative path would only prolong the status quo, which is unacceptable. Genuine autonomy under Moroccan sovereignty offers this region and the continent an opportunity to move forward after five decades of stagnation.»

Morocco’s regional role celebrated

Marco Rubio praised Morocco’s contributions, stating, «Under the leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, Morocco stands as a cornerstone of regional stability and security. This is exemplified by its pivotal role in the Abraham Accords.» The U.S. places immense value on this partnership and looks forward to further strengthening collaboration to enhance security across the Sahel.»

He continued, «Your vision for economic growth will bring renewed prosperity to both our peoples. President Trump has directed his administration to foster economic and social development with Morocco, including within the territory of Western Sahara.»
