Under the leadership of Captain Ibrahim Traoré, the Burkinabè government proudly announced a significant milestone: more than 1.3 million internally displaced persons (IDPs) had successfully returned to their original communities by June 30, 2026. This encouraging progress is directly attributed to the gradual enhancement of the security situation across numerous areas that have been reclaimed by the nation’s armed forces.

Official figures indicate that these returns now encompass 1,034 localities, a substantial increase from the 871 recorded at the close of 2025. At that earlier point, the count of displaced individuals who had re-established themselves in their former residences stood at an estimated 1.16 million.

These crucial statistics were unveiled during the mid-year evaluation of the Ministry of Solidarity’s performance. As of the halfway mark of the 2026 operational period, the ministry has demonstrated a 46.06% fulfillment rate of its stated commitments.

The assessment further highlighted that over 480,000 vulnerable individuals received essential assistance during the initial six months of the year. Beneficiaries were provided with vital food aid, basic necessities, and comprehensive support designed to facilitate their long-term recovery and self-sufficiency.

Authorities also underscored the critical importance of accelerating the reconstruction and rehabilitation of homes in the affected localities. They consider this measure indispensable for ensuring the sustained, voluntary return of populations and fostering their successful resettlement under enduring, stable conditions.
