The Dakar High Court has adjourned the case between Mame Mbaye Niang and Ousmane Sonko until July 22, 2026. The postponement was granted at the request of the former prime minister’s legal team, allowing them additional time to respond to the submissions filed by the plaintiff.

Mame Mbaye Niang had taken Ousmane Sonko to court seeking the annulment of what he claims is a fraudulent transfer of a property. Niang wants the villa located at Cité Keur Gorgui to be re-registered in his name so he can recover the 200 million CFA francs in damages and interest that the courts have awarded him.

Ousmane Sonko was given a definitive two-month prison sentence and ordered to pay 200 million CFA francs in damages to Mame Mbaye Niang. Relying on that ruling, Niang moved to enforce the judgment. However, he encountered a hurdle: the leasehold rights to the villa, situated on a 264-square-meter plot in Cité Keur Gorgui, appeared to have been transferred to the family of the Pastef leader.

According to Mame Mbaye Niang and his legal advisors, this transfer is a deliberate scheme to make Ousmane Sonko appear insolvent and to shield the property from seizure. They suspect the former minister of intentionally moving the house to avoid the execution of the financial penalty.

The case was initially heard before being postponed to June 10. That earlier adjournment allowed Mame Mbaye Niang’s lawyers to prepare their rebuttal to the arguments submitted by Ousmane Sonko’s defense.
