Starting this Saturday, August 15, 2026, fuel prices in Senegal will rise sharply. The super gasoline will jump to 990 F CFA per liter, while diesel will reach 755 F CFA per liter. This adjustment follows a surge in global oil prices, driven by the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.

International markets drive local fuel costs

Since July 13, diesel has surged by 26.6%, and super gasoline has climbed by 12% in international markets. Since the conflict escalated, these increases have reached 69% for diesel and 61% for super gasoline, putting significant pressure on domestic fuel prices.

Government scales back fuel subsidies

Faced with this upward trend, the Senegalese government has decided to roll back fuel subsidies introduced on December 6, 2025. The move aims to stabilize public finances while reflecting the true cost of fuel. This latest adjustment brings prices back to levels seen before the previous reduction.

The government had already allocated over 245 billion F CFA in subsidies since January. Without this price correction, subsidies for the period from August 15 to September 12, 2026, would have exceeded 47.27 billion F CFA.

Impact on consumers and businesses

The increase will affect both motorists and businesses relying on diesel for operations. While the government has kept other petroleum products unchanged, drivers will need to budget for higher fuel costs starting mid-August.
