Niamey sets strict terms for reopening border with Bénin
Niamey has outlined key conditions for the reopening of its border with Bénin, closed for nearly three years. The announcement comes amid ongoing efforts to restore diplomatic and economic ties between the two nations.
In a meeting held on June 20 with Bénin’s technical committee, Niger’s Interior Minister, General Mohamed Toumba, emphasized the need for a bilateral defense pact and a security agreement to prevent either country from using its territory against the other. These measures aim to eliminate past grievances that contributed to the prolonged closure.
