Oumane sonko mourns passing of serigne abdou bakhi mbacké

In a heartfelt message on social media, Ousmane Sonko, President of the National Assembly of Senegal, conveyed his deep sorrow upon learning of the passing of Serigne Abdou Bakhi Mbacké, the esteemed Khalife of the Khassim Mbacké family in Guinguinéo. The religious leader’s death, which occurred on July 9, 2026, has left a void in the Mouride community and beyond.

Ousmane Sonko expressed his condolences in a poignant Facebook post, honoring the memory of Serigne Abdou Bakhi Mbacké. He extended his deepest sympathies to the late Khalife’s family, the Grand Khalife of the Mouride Brotherhood, and the entire Senegalese people. « With profound emotion and great sadness, I learned of the return to Allah of Serigne Abdou Bakhi Mbacké, Khalife of the Khassim Mbacké family in Guinguinéo, » he wrote.

Reflecting on their encounters, Ousmane Sonko recalled the warm hospitality and kindness he experienced during his visits to Guinguinéo. « On several occasions during my trips to Guinguinéo, I had the honor of meeting the revered religious guide. Each meeting was marked by his affection, warmth, and generosity, leaving a lasting impression on me, » he shared.

In this « painful moment, » Ousmane Sonko offered his « most sincere condolences » to the late Khalife’s family, the Grand Khalife of the Mourides, the religious community of Guinguinéo, and all Senegalese citizens. He concluded his message with a prayer, asking Allah to grant the departed eternal peace and forgiveness: « May Allah, in His infinite mercy, grant him forgiveness and welcome him into His eternal Paradise. »
