On Thursday, August 6, 2026, senators in Bénin convened in Porto-Novo to elect the inaugural leadership of the nation’s upper parliamentary chamber. Patrice Talon was chosen to preside over this historic transition, marking the official launch of the Senate’s operations as outlined in the Constitution.

The election of the first Bureau of the Senate represents a pivotal moment in Bénin’s democratic framework, ensuring the chamber can now function at full capacity. This leadership team will oversee legislative proceedings, administrative coordination, and institutional governance.
