Meanwhile, Senegal needed a victory to secure a top-two finish and advance beyond the group stage.

The match unfolded as a tactical stalemate, with neither side able to break down the other’s defense. Morocco had already topped the group with two convincing wins over Kenya (4-0) and Algeria (1-0), while Senegal’s campaign had been inconsistent, starting with a 2-0 loss to Algeria followed by a narrow 1-0 win against Kenya.
