Chad ramps up its efforts to combat human trafficking, with strict enforcement of laws and mobilization of judicial and security authorities.
The Chadian government is doubling down on its battle against human trafficking, especially targeting women and children. This intensified effort involves strict enforcement of existing laws, backed by a newly issued circular to security and justice officials outlining critical actions and priorities.
Human trafficking remains a severe violation of human rights, frequently involving sexual exploitation and forced labor. Chad, a signatory to the United Nations Convention Against Transnational Organized Crime since 2009, has enacted multiple legal frameworks to address this crisis. Key measures include Ordinance No. 006/PR/2018 and Law No. 12/PR/2018, both designed to strengthen the legal response to trafficking networks.
Under these directives, authorities are required to conduct swift investigations, document findings in official reports, and ensure cases are promptly transferred to appropriate courts. Additionally, all cases must be reported to the General Secretariat of the Ministry of Justice and the National Commission Against Human Trafficking for rigorous oversight and follow-up.
Provincial delegates have been tasked with monitoring compliance and ensuring these guidelines are strictly implemented. This coordinated approach aims to establish a national database, laying the groundwork for a robust and effective anti-trafficking strategy in Chad.
