Eight people lost their lives and one was injured in a brutal nighttime raid blamed on Boko Haram fighters in Cameroon’s Far North region, local sources confirmed on Saturday.

The assault unfolded around 23:00 in the village of Kangaleri, within the Mayo-Sava department, leaving the community in shock. Six individuals were killed instantly, while three others sustained severe injuries and were rushed for treatment. Tragically, two more succumbed to their wounds overnight, pushing the provisional death toll to eight. As of Saturday, one injured person remained under medical care, according to the same sources.

The attackers, following their usual pattern, struck under the cover of darkness before vanishing into the night. Authorities continue to investigate the exact circumstances surrounding the assault, including the identities of the victims.

Just hours later, another incursion attributed to Boko Haram jihadists was reported in Tourou, a settlement in the Mokolo district near the Nigerian border. Witnesses described how the militants looted property and livestock before ransacking a market close to Tourou’s town center. No immediate casualties were reported for this second incident.

Despite ongoing military operations by Cameroonian forces and their partners in the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) along the Lake Chad Basin, the Far North region of Cameroon remains a frequent target of Boko Haram and splinter factions.
