Gabon bans sardine and ‘sans nom’ fish exports to protect local supply
Facing a growing scarcity of essential fish products on domestic markets, Gabonese authorities have taken decisive action. Effective March 26, 2026, the export of sardines (Ethmalosa fimbriata) and the locally known ‘sans nom’ (Heterotis niloticus) has been temporarily halted nationwide. The ban, formalized through two official decrees from the Ministry of Sea, Fisheries and Blue Economy and published in the Official Gazette on April 16, 2026, aims to redirect these vital resources back to Gabonese consumers.
