The Malian Armed Forces (FAMA) have declared a decisive shift in momentum, asserting full control over areas previously targeted by militant offensives in both northern and central regions. These developments follow coordinated attacks by the National Movement for the Liberation of Azawad (MNLA) in the north and the Group for the Support of Islam and Muslims (JNIM), an Al-Qaeda affiliate, operating across central and southern Mali.

In a formal statement, the FAMA confirmed that renewed fighting erupted on Sunday near Anifif, a strategic location approximately 110 kilometers south of Kidal. The clashes intensified after the MNLA received additional manpower and logistical support, aimed at escalating their campaign in the region.

MNLA leadership denies tactical setbacks

A spokesperson for the MNLA, Mohamed Mouloud Ramadan, had earlier claimed control over Anifif following the resumption of hostilities. In a subsequent declaration, he refuted persistent rumors regarding the death of the group’s leader, Mbarek Ag Akli, asserting that the commander remains actively engaged in overseeing military operations across northern Mali.
