The Movement for the Grandeur of Gabon (MGG), led by Christian Mermance N’nang Nsome, has issued a strong appeal for the unconditional release of Alain-Claude Bilie-By-Nzé, President of the opposition coalition Ensemble Pour le Gabon (EPG), who has been held in Libreville’s central prison since April 2026 on allegations of fraud involving five million CFA francs.

In a bold statement, the MGG framed its demand as both a defense of justice and a safeguard for Gabon’s hard-won democratic achievements, warning that over 100 political formations now face potential dissolution under the country’s revised political party laws.

«My fight isn’t about defending one person—it’s about what I expected from Gabon’s political class, civil society, and media when I was unlawfully imprisoned for nearly seven months», declared Christian Mermance N’nang Nsome, who emphasized his refusal to act as a blind follower despite his public backing of President Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguéma.

The MGG leader called on judicial authorities to uphold the law impartially in Bilie-By-Nzé’s case, drawing parallels to his own experience. «I paid a heavy price—my health remains fragile, my life shattered. Yet those in power act as if human lives are disposable», he reflected.

Despite warnings of backlash in an increasingly repressive climate where dissent is equated with public disorder, N’nang Nsome vowed to speak out. «First it was me, now Bilie-By-Nzé. Who will be next?» he cautioned, framing his stance as a moral duty to truth and history.
