Ousmane sonko mourns death of Senegal’s serigne abdou bakhi mbacké
The President of Senegal’s National Assembly, Ousmane Sonko, has conveyed his deepest condolences following the passing of Serigne Abdou Bakhi Mbacké, the spiritual leader of the Khassim Mbacké family of Guinguinéo, on Thursday, July 9, 2026.
In a heartfelt message shared on social media, Sonko expressed profound sorrow over the loss of the revered religious figure and extended his sympathies to the deceased’s family, the general Khalife of the Mouride Brotherhood, and the people of Senegal.
« It is with deep emotion and profound sadness that I learned of the passing of Serigne Abdou Bakhi Mbacké,» Sonko wrote. « As the Khalife of the Khassim Mbacké family, he embodied wisdom, guidance, and unwavering devotion to faith.»
The National Assembly leader recalled his personal encounters with the late spiritual guide during visits to Guinguinéo. « Each meeting left an indelible mark on me. His warmth, hospitality, and spiritual presence were truly inspiring,» he shared.
In this « time of profound grief », Sonko extended his « most sincere condolences » to the bereaved family, the Mouride community, the religious leaders of Guinguinéo, and the Senegalese people at large.
He concluded his message with a prayer: « May Almighty God, in His boundless mercy, grant him forgiveness and welcome him into eternal paradise. »
