Ousmane sonko mourns loss of Senegal’s serigne abdou bakhi mbacké
The President of Senegal’s National Assembly, Ousmane Sonko, has conveyed his heartfelt condolences following the passing of Serigne Abdou Bakhi Mbacké, the spiritual leader of the Khassim Mbacké family in Guinguinéo, on Thursday, July 9, 2026.
In a Facebook post, Sonko honored the late religious figure’s legacy and extended his deepest sympathies to the bereaved family, the Grand Khalife of the Mouride Brotherhood, and the entire Senegalese people.
« I was deeply shaken to learn of the passing of Serigne Abdou Bakhi Mbacké, the revered Khalife of the Khassim Mbacké family in Guinguinéo, » wrote Sonko. « His unwavering presence and kindness left an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of meeting him. »
Reflecting on their encounters during official visits to Guinguinéo, the National Assembly leader recalled the warm hospitality and genuine affection shown by the late spiritual guide.
« His comforting presence and boundless humanity were always a source of solace for those around him, » he added. « In these trying times, I share my sincerest condolences with the bereaved family, the Mouride community, and the people of Senegal. »
Sonko concluded with a prayer, invoking divine mercy: « May Allah, in His boundless compassion, grant him forgiveness and grant him eternal peace. »
