When asked directly whether he intends to run in the 2029 presidential election regardless of circumstances, the leader of Pastef, Ousmane Sonko, chose his words carefully.

He explained that it is far too early to discuss any candidacy. “I notice many groups already pushing for an Ousmane Sonko candidacy in 2029, but I prefer to wait for the right time. My political party will nominate the candidate it deems fit. We are not there yet,” said the president of the National Assembly.

Regarding the potential 2029 candidacy of President Diomaye Faye, Sonko stated that he does not focus on the president’s political future. “He has his own journey to follow, and I have mine. I see no reason to dwell on a possible bid by the current president,” he added.
