The King of Morocco, Mohammed VI, received a message from Donald Trump, then-President of the United States, on the occasion of the 27th anniversary of the Throne Day celebrations held on July 30. In his message, Trump reaffirmed the U.S. recognition of Morocco’s full sovereignty over its Western Sahara territory and reiterated support for Rabat’s autonomy plan as the sole viable resolution to the long-standing territorial dispute.

«The United States is unequivocal: we recognize Morocco’s sovereignty over Western Sahara and endorse its autonomy proposal as a serious, credible, and realistic foundation for a just and lasting solution,» Trump emphasized in the written correspondence.

He went on to state that «any alternative path perpetuates the status quo,» calling it «unacceptable.» «This dispute must conclude now, and the United States will continue to drive progress toward this objective,» he asserted.

In his congratulatory message to King Mohammed VI and the Moroccan people, Trump highlighted the «250-year history of American friendship with Morocco,» describing the bilateral relationship as «built on trust and mutual respect.»

The U.S. President praised the «wise leadership» of King Mohammed VI, describing him as «a pillar of stability» and emphasized Morocco’s «consistent commitment to fostering peace, combating extremism, and safeguarding the security of both American and Moroccan citizens—including through its pivotal role in the Abraham Accords, which reflect a valuable partnership for the United States.» He added, «To this end, we will also collaborate to ensure the security of the Sahel region.»

On the economic front, Trump instructed his administration «to advance economic and social development with Morocco, including within the territory of Western Sahara.» He pointed to key sectors such as technology, innovation, energy, artificial intelligence, critical minerals, and defense as focal points for strategic partnership.

«Together, we will forge a new era,» Trump concluded, calling for a relationship prioritizing the interests of both nations.
